John Smith’s People’s Darts Update

SE Regional Finals, Frimley Green, 30th November 2008.

In case you were wondering, Monk’s Head pub rep Tim Allchin progressed seamlessly to the third round before he got pulverized in straight legs by some talentless nobody. Never mind, eh?

Well, the People’s Darts people have at last got a couple of official videos of the event posted on their site. And by some miracle of editing that’s beyond human normalcy, both Tim and stunt-double Jim Walker have cameo roles in both vids. Egad!

You have to be sharp-eyed to spot the dynamic duo, so here’s a clue:

  • in video #1 (‘Bobby George’) it’s 00:23
  • in video #2 (‘Chace’) it’s 01:01

You can watch the 2-minute movies at the John Smith’s People’s Darts videos page.

Note: at the time of writing this, I could only get the vids to show with Internet Explorer — for some reason Firefox and Opera just blanked out.

Also, yours truly eventually got round to firing up Windows Movie Maker (I know, it sucks) and splicing together our own ‘official’ vid of Tim’s big day out. Here ya go… crank up your sound and get rockin’ and rollin’.

Finally, thanks go to Tim for having the balls to go through with it, to Jim for moral support, and last but by no means least, to Tony for providing transport and other sundry entertainment. ;)

The BDO World Pro Darts Championship finals are under way this week at Lakeside, with extensive coverage on BBC TV. People’s Darts and BDO finals are on Sunday 11th.

Darts players all over the southeast will be quaking on their oches at the prospect of facing Monks Head rep Tim Allchin in the Regional Finals of the John Smith’s People’s Darts 2008 tournament.

Thanks to the super efficiency of The Management, Tim secured one of only 300 places at the charity knockout dartsfest which is scheduled for Sunday 30th November at Lakeside — the Mecca of British darts at Frimley Green.

The Regional Finals are based on a knockout format of 501, straight start, finish on double, bull up for tie-breaker where necessary, best of 3 legs, final best of 5. Games start at 11.30am.

“I can’t wait to get down there and knock a few out,” says our Tim with a cheeky wink. “Every time I knock one out, it’s a special feeling.”

Yeah, we’re sure it is, Tim.

We all hope Tim can keep it together and progress to the next stage — the Quarter Finals, to take place at Lakeside on 6th January 2009.

Well… the usual suspects are holding the top four places in the Premier League this weekend, and they’re all televised, wahoo!

By way of a social experiment, I’m trying out a wacky idea here. The weekend’s games are shown below, and if you have a point of view on any of the games, please post a comment using the form at the end of this post. I’ll insert the juciest extracts from readers’ comments right in the table next to the relevant match.

Yes, I do seem to have too much time on my hands…
